It’s not as exciting and action-packed as others in the series, but Danii and Murdoch’s story is well told with lots of emotion, and I was fully invested in their journey. But as much as they try to create a life together, they have personal battles to fight before they can find their HEA. The timeline of this book takes us from the very beginning of the series right through to the current day as Murdoch and Danii sort themselves out. It’s an up and down ride, and it’s not always happy times for this couple. They are desperate for the closeness that their bodies and souls are screaming for, and their struggle to find a way to be together creates a push-and-pull between them as they rail against the unfairness while at the same time fall for each other for real. The attraction between Murdoch and Danii is evident from their first meeting, and they both very quickly acknowledge the bond between them, but their inability to touch in any way leaves them both frustrated and despondent. After the assassination of her ice-fey mother she has created a life for herself with her valkyrie sisters but she is incredibly lonely, and longs for affection and the touch of another.
